Getting your hair softer and smoother can be achieved with changing your habits and by making your own treatments. Keep healthy habits for healthy, beautiful hair!

No Poo

Not using shampoo?! Gross! Though that was our first reaction, too, the truth is it may be better for both your hair and your overall health if you skip the shampoo. Your locks produce oils that keep it healthy, but they overproduce when you shampoo your hair, allowing it to look overly greasy in the time of a day or two or less. The chemicals in many commercial shampoos and conditioners not only strip the hair follicle of moisture, they also contain toxins that are linked to cancer. Now that’s more yuck!
Not shampooing your hair typically requires a transitioning period. In between periods of not washing your hair, as your strands adapt to making the right amount of oil, you’ll need to clean it.Mix a quality baking soda with apple cider vinegar to wash your hair in between stretches of no-poo days (when it starts getting undeniably greasy).  Once you’ve begun getting the results of clean, yet shiny and nourished, hair, continue this process as needed.

At-Home Hair Treatments

Depending on your hair type, you may want to look for signs that it needs some extra care. About once a week, or once every two weeks, if your hair seems lifeless and limp, or frizzy and unmanageable, it’s probably time to treat it. Set aside some time in your weekly routine to indulge in a hair masque treatment:
  • Coffee grounds and olive oil: While the olive oil works to restore moisture to your mane, coffee grounds contain antioxidants that help fight free radicals and add some softness. Bonus points for the caffeine – it stimulates hair growth.
  • Coconut oil and honey: Coconut oil is a miracle treatment with great restorative properties for both hair and skin. It acts as a deep conditioner while the honey
  • Egg and milk: Mix one egg yolk with a cup of milk and some lemon juice for a triple-packed potion of protein, calcium, and vitamin C.
All of these ingredients have Leave the treatment on for at least ten to fifteen minutes before rinsing. For severely dry or damaged hair, leave on hair for an hour before rinsing.

Natural Oils

Instead of using drugstore products, for natural hair days try using a natural oil like moroccan oil or argan oil (made from argan kernels), or coconut oil. Apply the oil as your main “product” on days you go without styling, and use it as a preparation treatment or maintaining product on days you do style your hair.
Natural remedies may take some effort and planning. It takes more time to gather ingredients and go through multiple steps of cleansing, rather than simply going to the store and selecting from what’s already on the shelves. However, as you find the right combinations of natural ingredients that work for you, you’ll find yourself with healthier head of hair.
