Be the Best Dressed Guest at a Wedding

Recently I have been to so many weddings and have seen a few questionable fashion choices. I know it can sometimes be hard to find an outfit, but you should always aim to look your best. Here is some advice on the dos and don’ts of wedding guest attire.

Never white
It is frowned upon to wear white, or dresses that look white, to someone else’s wedding. It looks as though you are trying to upstage the bride. Although that might not be your intention, just stay well away from pale colours. Even colours such as light pink or ivory can often appear white in photographs. So if you are standing next to the bride in pictures, the wedding photographers might have a hard time telling you apart!

Hat or fascinator?
Should you wear a hat? Often it is the mother of the bride who decides to wear a hat but that doesn’t mean that you can’t if you choose to either. The real choice is whether you want to model a hat or something more subtle like a fascinator. Fascinators clip into your hair and they’re really easy to get on. Hats are a bold addition to any outfit. Whatever you choose, make sure it matches your outfit.

Choosing a hairstyle
If you aren’t in the bridal party, you don’t have to go all out with a big bridal hairdo. But that isn’t to say that you don’t have to get dolled up if you want. Go for something that’s going to be able to last all day. Visit your hairdresser prior to the wedding and see which hairstyles they recommend. Tell them you want something fancy, but still quite manageable. Maybe some loose curls or an up-do do will work perfectly. Whatever you do don’t forget the hairspray.

Recovery Flats
Many women choose to wear heels to weddings. This helps to elongate the leg and make sure the outfit looks really special. One piece of advice however is to make sure that you carry a spare pair of flat shoes. This will save your feet from the terrible blisters that your heels are bound to give them. You will be able to dance all night long, and by the end of the night, everyone will be having so much fun that no one will have noticed your change.

Something warm
Chances are you’re going to be at this wedding all night long. Be prepared for an evening chill with a warm jacket or shawl. Also, don’t forget an umbrella just in case the day is spotted with rain. After all you don’t want your hair and makeup to get ruined.

Keep it formal
Maybe this is a bit old fashioned, but I like to think that if you are dressing for a wedding you should try to keep it formal. No jeans and t-shirts, and try to stay away from low cut tops and short skirts. If you are attending a church wedding, bear in mind that the couple may want their guests to dress appropriately.
