The Height of Fashion: 5 Tips for the Modern Woman

If you’re having difficulty figuring out what’s fashionable and how to select the right pieces for your wardrobe, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Fashion is really difficult. Authorities express their opinions on the Internet, in fashion magazines, and on television talk shows. They don’t know you and they often fail to recognize that women come in all sizes and shapes. Plus, trends change so fast. At last, flattering low waist, boot cut jeans made women look great and mom jeans disappeared, but now, suddenly, mom jeans are coming back? What? Why?

Let’s put those authorities and trends aside for the moment. They will all come and go. Certain wardrobe standards, however, will always keep you looking fresh, modern, looking fantastic, and always stylish. Regardless of whether you work in an professional or laid-back office, wear a uniform, or work at home; if your style is tailored, relaxed, hipster, or bohemian; if you’re single, just dating, married, with or without children; or, if you’re a homebody or are always on the go, here are five fashion tips that will always and forever work:

The Black Blazer

A classic black blazer will undoubtedly become the most functional piece you will ever own. You will wear it in so many ways. Casually, over a t-shirt or camisole with jeans; professionally, over a blouse and skirt; and, as a jacket, in the fall and spring. It’s endlessly and constantly timeless. And, it’s always flattering, no matter your size or shape. The trick, though, is to purchase a quality design. You won’t regret the investment.

A Trench Coat

A trench coat is functional, flattering, and versatile. It’ll keep you warm and dry in the rain, especially if it has a hood, so you never have to worry about a sudden rainfall. They’re no longer limited to just beige anymore and come in a range of beautiful colors and styles that will flatter any outfit. Those with removable linings make sure they’re suitable all year round.

A Statement Necklace

Statement necklaces are large and flamboyant. They have a lot of components and sometimes contain several materials. You might think they’re simply a trend, but they’ve been around for a while now and it looks like they’re here to stay. Statement necklaces add fascination and make plain outfits sparkle.

They’re perfect for when you’re going out after work or your daytime events and you don’t have time to change your clothes. All you need to do is put on a statement necklace, add a pair of black pumps and a glamorous evening clutch (those are two freebie fashion tips) and, poof, nighttime outfit. Statement necklaces are also great for when you’re wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and your classic black blazer.

The Right Bra

Most women do not wear the right sized bra. They think they’re either smaller or larger than their actual size. If your bra is riding up your back or if you’re bulging out of the sides or top of your cups, you’re not wearing the correct size. The right sized bra can make a huge difference in the way you feel and look. You will do yourself a big favor by going to a bra store or the bra section of a department store and asking for a measurement. You might be surprised. There are also many different kinds of bras from which to choose. Some bras correct back and side bulges and some bras look better under tighter shirts. Some bras have thicker straps, which feel more comfortable, and some bras are better for certain kinds of sports. There are also shapers and other lingerie items that can improve the way you look and feel in your clothes (there’s yet another freebie). When you wear a bra that actually fits, you will feel amazing.

A Great Pair of Jeans

A great pair of jeans is a must have for the modern woman. What kind of pair, well, that’s hard to say. A dark wash or black trouser style looks nicest, but there are times when a boyfriend style just looks and feels better. One of the best ways to find great clothes is to shop at great stores. Find a clothing store like Simple Addiction in your area or online to make sure you can always get an outfit that will work with your style.

Make sure, too, that your clothes fit properly. Many women think that too big camouflages a large size. It doesn’t. It only makes them look larger. It’s also a good idea, no matter what your hairstyle, to have it trimmed regularly, even if it’s one length. Cutting off unhealthy ends will keep it looking healthy and fresh. And, don’t forget to treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure every once in a while. You’re worth it.

These tips could go on and on, if time and paper permitted. There are still so many more to share. Essentially, what you wear reflects how you’re feeling about yourself. There’s some kind of expressions that says something like “fashion defines you.” Still, the idea’s accurate. The main goal is for you to feel confident and beautiful. And, when you feel confident and beautiful, you’ll be happier at work, at home, and in everything you do.
