Design Your Own Cabin in the Woods

Everyone dreams to have a place of their own. Some even wish for lodging in a remote location where they can have a few days of peace from the world. But with housing costs, it’s hard to own one, let alone two properties. Nevertheless, there is another solution: you can build your own cabin in the woods, and for a small amount at that. However, before building comes the planning and most importantly – the design.

Therefore, here are some things to take into consideration when designing.

Location and budget planning

Locations are always important when you plan to build something or buy a property. When it comes to cabins, people mostly wish to have a secluded place to rest. It’s a perfect spot to spend some quiet time with loved ones and escape the city noise.

Some locations have access to the infrastructure like electricity and sewer. While some don’t and that may present an extra challenge. You can either create your own or live more ascetically.

Any endeavour has a planning process. That’s how you account for all the items, stages and logistics. Nevertheless, planning a budget is something more demanding and mandatory, especially when every penny counts. It will show you where you can save money and what will need a cheaper alternative.

In addition, budget planning can leave room to buy some expensive pieces or even do some more costly and extravagant changes.

Weigh your wishes and possibilities

You can’t design your cabin without exactly knowing what you want it to have. The number of rooms, furniture, floors, type of walls and other particularities should all be taken into consideration and evaluated. Be realistic about what you need and that will keep you within the available funds. Of course, you can add some luxuries, but it shouldn’t be at the expanse of some important segment.

Depending on the piece of land and the position of the building site, you will also have to take into account construction material and workers. In the end, it will all come down to your decisions based on the designated budget.

Use design software

You can draw the design by hand, but today there are many software solutions which can give you impressive projections. At some point, you will have to consult and hire an architect for your own safety and stability of the construction.

However, if you create the simulation based on your ideas, it will be easier for an architect, interior designer and other professionals to give you their input. Additionally, this will also help them to come up with the more practical and functional solutions while respecting your design simultaneously.

Decorating ideas

When it comes to decorating and interior design, usual choice is to go rustic. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t add luxury and elegance to the mix. Rustic design is sustainable and eco-friendly since it uses natural materials and is all about tradition. Nevertheless, if you add some rustic decorations to contemporary design, you will turn your cabin in the woods into the sophisticated getaway.

Textured fabrics, handcraft pieces, wooden stairs are all symbols of traditional rustic design. Pine is often used as a material for floors, walls and furniture, just as river rock is an important architectural element, especially for fireplaces. Colours are earthy and easily integrated with the natural ambience, like beige, brown, green and wine.

As Marchants Blinds, the curtains manufacturer highlights: “You can create many looks from the traditional classic pinch pleat style, absolute opulence or go with a more contemporary, Sfold modern look.” Since cabin in the woods is all about nature, consider having big windows with two sets of curtains. One made of transparent material so you can enjoy the view but not be blinded by the sun, and the other, drapery kind, which will provide privacy.

Conclusion

Never miss a chance to have your piece of heaven in some peaceful and serene location, like the woods. With some prudent planning and evaluation, you can easily achieve what you’re looking for. Just make sure that you have parameters like budget and location all figured out before starting with designing. Good organization and realistic expectations will get you to your dream cabin in the woods faster.
