Trends That Will Influence How You Accessorize in 2018

There is a common misconception that accessorizing is a walk in the park – you see an item you like, you put it on and rock it. Unfortunately, that’s not how the style cookie crumbles as accessorizing is a fashion art form in its own right. There are those of us who tend to wear timeless pieces that are always an unmistakable choice and mesh well with any given outfit. However, we all love to get on board with a good trend every now and then.

Unluckily for us, just as certain clothing items, patterns, cuts and colors come in and out of style, so do the accessories that accompanied them faithfully during their season of glory. The new spring and summer collections are here and they’ve brought shiny new accessories for us to play with, so stay tuned and master the art of accessorizing – the 2018 edition.

Ugly is the new pretty

In case you haven’t kept a watchful eye on both the runways and street style trends, we feel obliged to inform you that the ugly shoes are the new ‘it’ shoes and they come in a variety of shapes and forms. There are the embellished platform crocks, rocked on both the runways as well as by the fashionistas posing for the street style section. Then, there are the pretty ugly shoes which have come out of the doghouse – the Birkenstocks, and finally the athleisure trend’s rendition of the ugly shoe – the dad sneakers. It’s safe to say that the third ones will probably rule the spring, while the more breathable open-toed Birkenstocks and shoes similar to them will be a summer favorite.

Now, as summer will end eventually and fall will rise again, it’s best to think ahead of time. Tom Ford, along with many other designers has spoken, so animal print shoes will be ruling the harsher seasons, but this is amazing news as we will need something to spice up our style during those murky and rainy days.

Pick the right one

Every woman knows that the key to a great outfit lies in an amazing bag. This season’s ‘it’ bag was definitely the clear PVC bag, but if you don’t feel like letting everyone know what’s in your bag, there are great and just as trendy alternatives. Solid round bags are that chic alternative, and the round design is equal parts innovative yet timeless, probably due to the color and fabric choices. If this bag is too small for your taste, larger solid bags are also in style, emphasis on the solid, as sturdy bags have replaced the soft ones, so it’s all about structure now. We love this trend, particularly because of its potential staying power.

If you invest in a bag, you want it to last and look great for at least a couple of seasons, so going for solid is an unmistakable choice. However, there is summertime breeziness to take into account, and according to Instagram influencers, whose opinions matter almost as much as that of the designers, rattan and woven bags will rule the summer, and it’s clear why – they’re cute, bohemian, and simply put, the embodiment of summer.

Clutch those pearls

Karl Lagerfeld has done wonders to preserve Coco Chanel’s legacy. His designs always bring an air of new while magically preserving Coco’s signature. This spring’s collection was no exception, and aside from the brand’s recognizable tweed and novelty hats and clear boots, the timeless pearls made a strong appearance and they did it again at the fall show. This show proved that pearls never go out of style, so start browsing for your new pair of classic pearl earrings online, and while you’re at it, make sure you snag a necklace as well so you have something to clutch if the situation calls for it.

Hoops were over, or so we thought, but now they’re back and they’re bigger and more bejeweled than ever. They were present on almost all the runways, but if you’re a minimalist at heart and never had a soft spot for hoops, even when they were far less conspicuous, perhaps these minimal earrings with abstract faces will be just what your subtle artistic style needs.

No bad hair day

Ever since Marc Jacobs came out with his spring line, which just happened to feature turbans, the internet has become overflown with tutorials on how to make your own head wrap or turban, so say goodbye to hats for now, and take a more exotic route. You can use single-color or printed scarves to make your own, and they won’t only save you from bad hair days, but also bring an air of mystery to your look.
