Frizzy Days Ruining Curly Dreams? 4 Ways to Keep Curls Silky

There are so many women who are ditching the flat irons, embracing their curly coifs and thriving. However, one of the most common concerns for women with curly hair is the dreaded frizziness. If you want your hair to turn out frizz-free and flawless, take a closer look at your regimen. Consider implementing the following tricks into your curly hair routine.

Avoid silicones and parabens

More people are learning about the toxic effects of silicones and parabens. If a shampoo is labeled ‘silicone & paraben-free’, this is a good sign. It’s also important to read the labels of your hair products. Silicones and parabens are bad for the strands for a number of reasons. Silicones can cause build-up. Parabens can strip the hair of its necessary oils to thrive. Essentially, you don’t want dry, brittle curls.

Cleanse correctly

Shampoo is meant to cleanse the hair of product build-up, dirt and debris. As a result, it’s naturally going to work on removing the dirt. However, it is most important to focus on the scalp. As you vigorously shampoo the scalp, the solution will run down the strands and cleanse them as well. You don’t need to shampoo your scalp and your strands. That will only dry out your hair.

Be gentle when you’re manipulating your hair

Brushes and fine-tooth combs can actually be extremely harsh on the hair. If you want to retain length and maintain a full head of hair, do not rip it out of your scalp. The best way to maintain frizz-free, healthy curls is through gentle manipulation. If you must comb the strands, use a wide-tooth comb. Ideally, it’s best to coat your fingers in conditioner and use them to detangle. Instead of using a regular towel to dry your hair, opt for a different fabric as standard towels can encourage frizz by pulling on the curls with its rough fibers. Try a microfiber hair towel or a cotton t-shirt to press (not rub) out the moisture.

Infuse appropriate amounts of moisture

Curly hair desperately needs conditioning treatments. Set aside time to use conditioner in your hair. Leave-in conditioners are always important. Hot oil treatments and deep conditioning treatments are good to use once or twice a month. Whenever you apply a treatment, be sure to use heat to open up the strands. The heat will help the cuticles absorb the treatment as well.

As you become intentional with the implementation of these tips, you’ll be able to see improvements in your hair. Your hair will feel more moisturized. It’ll behave better when it’s time to style. It’ll also be a lot healthier. Besides, if you want to rock gorgeous curls, they’re the most beautiful when they’re healthy curls.
