4 Physical Self-Care Ideas to Try for Feeling Refreshed and Renewed

As we near the end of a trying year, we might find our bodies feeling worn-out and in need of some extra care. Maybe we were so stressed out that we gave up on our diets; the stay-at-home orders might have interfered with our daily jog, making us feel gross and out of shape.

It’s never too late to practice self-care, and as we approach the close of the year, there’s no better time to start looking after ourselves again. Here are four physical self-care routines that you can practice from home.

Sleep Hygiene

Have you been struggling with insomnia? While stress and anxiety can contribute to lack of sleep, there are steps you can take to ensure a better night’s rest. For example, always make sure the room is a cool temperature; that way, you won’t sweat yourself awake. Abstain from caffeine a couple of hours before bed, and try to stay away from screens.

Eat Responsibly

We’ve already talked about how stress eating can take over when times are tough. It’s never too late to go back to a healthy diet. Search for proteins and learn to make healthy meals that you love. You’ll find distraction in the act of cooking something new; it’ll take your mind off of your problems.

Have a Spa Day

You might not be able to make a weekly spa trip, but when you need an extra pick-me-up, schedule an appointment. You can do anything from a Botox treatment, full-body massage, or classic pedicure. Having a set time to focus on yourself will help you cut out distractions and be fully present.

Learn to Say No

Many of us tend to be people-pleasers. We want to help our friends and family, and as a consequence we struggle to say no, even when we already have enough on our plates. You’re already balancing your own self-care; don’t be afraid to say no if somebody asks for help, invites you out, or interrupts your quiet time. You don’t owe anyone your time.

Self-care is complicated. There are so many ways to go about it, such as sleeping better or eating healthy, that you might not know where to start. Try these four tips to begin with, and remember, there’s no shame in putting yourself first.
