Your daughter’s wedding is an exciting and joyful event. However, after thinking of how happy you are for her, you can have one important thought. You don’t have anything to wear. You’ll have to look your best on the day you watch your daughter get married. But choosing what to wear isn’t as simple as picking up any old dress.
There are a few things to think about, whether you want to go for traditional “mother of the bride” or something a bit more modern. Before you buy your outfit, think about these different things to help you make your decision.
Follow the Bride
If you’re not sure where to start, it’s a good idea to follow the bride’s lead. Of course, you’re not going to dress exactly like her, or even wear white. But you can talk to her about some of the decisions they have made for the wedding. Is there a particular dress code or a color scheme that will give you inspiration? You don’t want to turn up dressed to the nines if she intends to go for more of a laid-back feel. She can give you hints about what style and color are best. So discuss your options with her before you decide on your outfit.
Make Sure You’re Comfortable
One of the most important things is that you feel comfortable and confident in your outfit. You don’t want to wear something that’s too small, the wrong style or just not you. It can sometimes be difficult to find beautiful clothes in larger sizes. But you can find mother of the bride plus size dresses and suits if you know where to look. Whatever you choose to wear, don’t feel pressured to buy something just because it’s in fashion. Pick something that speaks to you and that feels great when you put it on.
Think Outside the Box
When you think of mother of the bride outfits, you might immediately think of a particular style. But you don’t always have to go for that sort of thing. You have lots of different options to choose from to find something you love. You could wear a dress, but there are no rules saying you have to. It could be a skirt and top or a suit instead. There aren’t any special rules you have to follow, apart from not wearing white, and black might be seen as bad form too.
Consider the Color
Choosing the right color can be difficult, mostly because there’s so much to choose from. You know white is out of bounds, but what else should you think about? You might want to pick something that ties into the wedding colors, without being too close to the shade the bridesmaids are wearing. Take inspiration from the venue, as well as the decorations and wedding party. If you want to go for subtlety, choose an accessory that matches one of the wedding colors.
Take your time picking your outfit for your daughter’s wedding. There’s no rush to find the perfect thing to wear for her big day.
