Patio Redesign – Top Trendy Tips

Life is about simple pleasure and one of the best of those is sitting on your patio at the end of the long summer day.  Before you’re able to do that, you’ll have to get your yard ready, prepare choose the right materials and settle on a design. For most people building and maintain the thing is half the fun.

There is a whole lot of options on how your patio can look. You can go with something simple, which can be your place for retreat and rest or with a much elaborate construction – making it basically and outdoor entertainment center. With patios like with anything else the design trends are rapidly changing and what was in last year now seem like a bit too much, even tacky.

Basics

Before you choose the design you like the most, first think about the size of your back yard and decide how much of it you want to give away. It’s also important to consider the orientation of sunlight (you want to stay in the shade, but not to get chilly in the late summer).

When you’ve made all this choices – it’s time to build a base. This is probably the most important part of your patio. If it’s done wrong it won’t last longer than a year. Using sand or gravel is the less expensive option, but concrete is moral durable. In any case the base should be 8 inches deep.

Now on to the designs themselves:

Teak wood

The hardwood trend is a bit unexpected because it’s not what first comes to mind when you think about patios. People usually associate them with warm summer colors (and the same weather). In order to counteract this effect of teak wood design – add a couple of stainless steel elements or even something made out of concrete. Steel or concrete tables are usually the way to go (with a couple of lamps or other ornaments). With all this wood around, make sure you’re protected from the elements – get durable shade sails online and you wouldn’t have to worry about it again.

Rustic design

Everything retro is in this year and this patio will be especially nice if your backyard has a view. In order to get that western ranch look everything has to be either in stone or in wood. Start with a fireplace or even a fire pit if you’re willing to go the extra mile and build around it. If you go for the pit the whole arrangement will have to go in circles around. On the other hand with a fireplace you have more options. You can add a couple of cozy and warm chairs or build a bar and obviously go for the bar stools. Remember to plan the lighting accordingly – in this case a bit dim and possibly natural.

Mission style

This look is somewhat reminiscent of Spain and it’s a bit harder to maintain than to construct. First of all build a pergola and paint it in dark colors. Design is up to you and it can be something quite simple (just even spaces, like a chess board) or something more intricate and bold. The next step is wrapping the wine all around it. This will create a beautiful lush look and a nice shade (this is also the maintenances heavy part). Mission set up look best with wicker chairs and blue pillows.

The design trends for patios have changed in the recent years to be more warm and inviting. This is much easier than having a huge lawn that you have to take care of on regular basis and it’s a place to have small gathering or parties.
