How to Stay Fit While Traveling

Do you love to travel but always tend to come back from your trip with a few extra pounds? Well, you don’t have to live with that deal! Here are a few easy and cost-effective tips on how to stay fit while on the road.

Have a granola bar at hand

If you want to keep your metabolism working hard (and keep the mood swings away) have a granola bar in your bag at all times. These are a great snack in the morning or between meals and they will definitely prevent you from reaching for junk food. You can buy them in bulk and bring them with you on your trip (it’s a cheaper option), but they can also be found in almost any convenience store all over the world.

Walk as much as you can

Are you often taking an Uber to drive you somewhere five or six blocks away? Stop this habit while you’re traveling and go on foot. You will not only burn some calories but also see your destination better and get to know its secrets. Unless you have a condition, are in a great hurry or you’re in an unsafe part of town, there’s no need to take a ride instead of walking! Your feet are much more eco-friendly as well—it’s another thing to keep in mind.

Take the stairs

Unless your hotel room is on the 50th floor, make sure to take stairs and burn a few extra calories. While climbing one set of stairs won’t do wonders for your figure, it will definitely raise your heart rate and get your body into calorie-burning mode. So, next time you have a choice between an elevator and the stairs, take the hard way and climb your way to success.

Pack your workout clothes

If you’re like most of us, you will find any excuse not to work out. So, make sure to eliminate or at least minimize these excuses by packing your workout gear. If you see your quality gym clothes at the top of your clothing pile, you will definitely grab them and do a small workout routine. You don’t need much, just your shorts, T-shirt and trainers and you’re ready to give your body the workout it needs! These will take up minimal space in your suitcase but come in very handy when you’re lacking the motivation to move.

Bring a few workout items

Of course, you don’t have to bring your dumbbells with you on your trip, but there are things that can be packed very easily. For instance, a light jump rope will take up minimal space but will really get your blood pumping in no time. Elastic bands and suspension trainers are also very practical and will give you a good muscle workout.

Think outside the box

If you’re creative, most things can be turned into a good workout gadget! So, make sure to be very free-thinking when designing your travel workouts. For instance, your suitcase can be a perfect addition to your lunges and can even allow you to perform deadlifts when away from your gym! You can also grab a 5-liter water container for some serious curls and use the chair in your hotel room for dips and Bulgarian squats.

Use your environment

The outdoors is like a huge gym, so make sure to use it! If you’re stuck in the city, walk the walk and explore the city on foot or rent a city bike. If you’re somewhere near the mountains, go on a hike. If you’re near the beach, swim like a great white is chasing you. Wherever you are, you will have a bunch of free workout options as long as you’re ready to get out!

Drink plenty of water

Drinking plenty of water is good for you in any situation, but it’s especially important when you’re traveling. Water will not only keep you strong and sharp but also fill up your stomach and prevent you from reaching for sugary sodas. Most travel destinations have bottled water available on every corner, but if you know they don’t, make sure to find a good self-filtering water bottle and bring it with you everywhere you go.

If you employ all of these tips during your next trip, you will not only come back with amazing memories but also return with the body of your dreams!
