How to Prevent Bees and Wasps from Ruining Your Summer Parties

One of the best parts of summer is throwing a big party with friends and family in the yard. This fun event can be completely ruined by bees if you are not careful. It is estimated that roughly seven percent of people in the United States will have an allergic reaction to bee stings at some point in their life. This is the last thing you want to happen while everyone is trying to have a good time. These are the four best ways to prevent bees and wasps from ruining your summer parties.

Hire the Professionals

If you have a severe bee problem in the backyard, then there is likely a large nest somewhere near the house. While there are ways to safely dispose of this nest, it is best to rely on the professionals. A pest control company will be able to expertly hunt down the source of your bee infestation. Once they have exterminated the bees, you will be able to enjoy your yard without any worries.

Cover the Food

It is hard to have a great summer party without serving a lot of food. Unfortunately, bees are naturally drawn to the smell of food. Since nobody wants to constantly go inside to grab a snack, it is best to keep the food covered at all times. Bees will have a much harder time detecting and smelling the food if it is covered with plastic wrap or foil. This is also a great way to keep flies and other bugs off the food.

Protect the Table

You can also keep bees away from your party based on the way you decorate the outdoor table. Since bees are drawn to bright colors, it is best to use a plain tablecloth when eating outside. You may also want to think about using a pot of marigolds as the centerpiece to the table. These beautiful flowers create the perfect summer atmosphere while also repelling bees.

Hang Some Mothballs

In addition to being put off by the smell of marigolds, bees and wasps also hate the smell of mothballs. Buy a few pairs of cheap nylons at the drug store and fill them with mothballs. Hanging the mothballs on the fence or trees bordering your yard will keep bees from getting anywhere near your guests.

Bees and wasps may look fairly innocent, but they can completely ruin your fun afternoon. Protect your home and party guests by taking these precautions before your next summer party.
