Tidy Home: Life-Saving Cleaning Hacks for Moms

Cleaning is no fun, especially for moms who have plenty of other things on mind. However, cleaning is essential for creating a healthy environment for your family, so you cannot avoid it. Fortunately, you can make it easier and more efficient by following these life-saving hacks.

Come up with a cleaning plan/schedule

You need a cleaning plan, schedule or a to-do list that will help you organise yourself better. Of course, you should always seize a cleaning opportunity when it arises, but having a plan will save you a lot of trouble. It’s better to schedule your cleaning because you’ll be able to do it on a regular basis. Otherwise, there will always be a reason to postpone your cleaning chores. You can come up with an efficient cleaning checklist that will help you cross off items one by one quickly.

Involve your kids

Involving your kids in cleaning around the house will not only make your job easier, but it will also contribute to their development. Cleaning tasks area a great opportunity to teach your children about responsibility. You can ask them to clean after themselves, make their own beds and put away their toys after they’ve finished playing. Eventually, you can give them more demanding tasks, such as washing the dishes, cleaning after their pets, etc.

Prevent clutter from building up

You should eliminate clutter as soon as you notice it because that’s the only way to prevent it. You should keep your surfaces clear, make sure that every item has its spot and throw away unnecessary items. As you pass through the living room, don’t just neglect a pile of old newspapers sitting on your coffee table. Clean as you go and clutter won’t stand a chance.

Buy a cordless vacuum cleaner

There’s nothing more annoying than getting into your vacuuming mood and having to stop to unplug your vacuum cleaner just because the cord is too short. If you want to speed up the entire vacuuming process, you should invest in a high-quality cordless vacuum cleaner. It may cost more than regular ones, but it’s definitely more efficient because you can move around quickly and easily.

Remember that some chores can’t wait

While some cleaning chores can be postponed for a day or two, others can’t. For instance, you should tackle spills as soon as they occur to prevent them from turning into stubborn stains. You should also wash your laundry regularly even if it means every day. If you let your dirty laundry pile up, and you know how fast children can get dirty, it will take you hours and hours to wash all of your laundry. Finally, you should also avoid leaving your dirty dishes overnight because they’ll be more difficult to clean the following day and you’ll find yourself with a full sink before you know it.

Don’t hesitate to hire professionals every now and then

We all try to cut our expenses in order to provide for our families, but there’s no reason why you can’t hire someone to help you every once in a while. Not only will you have more free time for yourself, but certain areas in your home should truly be tackled by experts. For instance, if you go with in-depth professional tile cleaning, you’ll be sure that your tiles are completely and spotlessly clean. Cleaning experts can use special supplies and equipment that will provide you with much better results more quickly. The same goes for carpet and rug cleaning. Therefore, you shouldn’t hesitate to give a cleaning crew a call when you need some professional help.

Find a way to make cleaning enjoyable

One of the main problems about cleaning is that it’s boring, so why not make it fun? You can play your favourite music or see it as an opportunity to work out at the same time. For some people, cleaning is even a form of relaxation because it can have a calming, cleansing effect on them. The moment you find a way to make cleaning more enjoyable, you’ll stop avoiding it so much.

Prioritise

As a mom, you simply aren’t able to deal with every cleaning emergency in your home even if you’re a clean freak. However, this won’t be a problem if you learn to prioritise and go one step at a time. You can divide your cleaning chores into different categories and always deal with those that simply must be done while leaving others for the next day.

Stock up on cleaning supplies

You should always have your cleaning supplies ready for an unexpected cleaning opportunity. For instance, your kids may have an unplanned playdate with their friends after school, which will give you plenty of time to get your home in order. However, if you don’t have all your cleaning supplies, you may find yourself postponing it once again or wasting time by going to a supermarket. Some of the things you should stock up on are cleaning mops, floor polishing agent, long life disinfectant, trash bags, and detergents.

Cleaning is an inevitable chore essential for a healthy, comfortable and enjoyable home, so make sure to try out these hacks because they’ll make your life easier.
